it's easy to find an air valve and fill virtually anything
initiating them is pretty easy too

the potassium nitrate + sugar mixture is very close to a black powder
just use charcoal instead of a sugar and that's basically a black powder
maybe add a bit of sulfur so it's easy to explode with a mechanical striker in a gun
they USED sulfur and charcoal before because it leaves less dirt and shit behind in a barrel than sugar
sugar/potassium nitrate mixture is really bad for barrels
but that's fucking useless for you. you aren't loading any bullets
so potassium nitrate is a nitrate salt

you can nitrify sulfuric acid with them and make nitric acid
and with both nitric and sulfuric acid at your disposal possibilities are endless
